About this career
An agricultural inspector is a professional who helps make sure farms, food products, animals, and agricultural businesses follow safety and quality rules. They may inspect crops, livestock, processing facilities, or equipment to check for diseases, pests, contamination, or other problems. Agricultural inspectors also make sure farmers and businesses follow laws designed to protect consumers, animals, plants, and the environment. Agricultural inspectors may work for local, state, or federal government agencies and often divide their time between offices, farms, processing plants, and other agricultural sites. Many positions require education or experience in agriculture, biology, animal science, or a related field. This career is a great fit for students who enjoy science, agriculture, working outdoors, solving problems, and helping keep our food supply safe.
