About this career
An RF Field Engineer's job includes repairing transmitter and translators including all infrastructure to transport signals to and from the main transmitter and remote sites. Most transmitter sites are remote which can make access difficult in extreme weather conditions. There are times when either a helicopter or a large vehicle is needed to reach a site. When reaching a site they have to be able to trouble-shoot any issue that may arise. This could include electronic issues as well as issues with antennas on towers, which means climbing, and mechanical repairs. RF Field Engineers must have the ability to work alone and be creative in repairs since you never know what may be found when they get to a site. While not working on site, RF Field Engineer might be responsible for in house maintenance and repairs.
