About this career
An architect is a professional who designs buildings and helps plan how they will be built. Architects work with clients to understand what kind of space is needed, such as a home, school, or office, and then create drawings and plans to bring those ideas to life. They think about how a building will look, how people will use it, and how to make it safe, functional, and comfortable. Architects also work closely with engineers, builders, and city officials to make sure projects follow building codes and safety rules. They often visit construction sites to check that the building is being built according to the plans. Becoming an architect usually requires college education, training, and a license. This career is a good fit for students who enjoy math, art, problem-solving, and creative thinking.
